The CrossFit Games: Turn Weakness Into Strength
By Top Tier CrossFit
Our Assistant Manager, Michael Priest, recently competed at the CrossFit Mid-Atlantic Regionals in Fairfax, Virginia.
“Every time I compete I gain new insights that I implement in both my own training and the training of our members. And this year was no different,” says Michael.
For the uninitiated, the CrossFit Games are the world’s premier test to find the “Fittest On Earth”. Sponsored by Reebok, these games serve as a grueling test of strength, speed, and agility, and are based on the functional movements of CrossFit programming.
The Games season is divided into three stages: the Open, Regionals, and the Games.
The Open is a worldwide, five week event that starts in the spring. The top qualifying competitors then move on to a three day live event at Regionals. From there regional qualifiers then compete at the CrossFit Games, where thousands of high-level athletes vie to become part of a select group of about 50 of the fittest men and women in the world.
“The road to the Games is the ultimate test of fitness and gives me a concrete goal and benchmark that I work toward on a daily basis,” says Michael.
Both Michael and Top Tier Head Coach, Tyler Eaves, have competed in past regionals, with Tyler reaching the games in 2011.
“Although I fell short of qualifying for the Games this year, I can now turn my weaknesses into strengths and prepare for next year. And that’s what I love about CrossFit. You’re never done. There’s always another goal to push towards—it keeps me focused,” says Michael.
